Elective Tuition Refund Plan

The Cornell Elective Tuition Refund Plan is designed to protect you, the student, from the loss of tuition should you find it necessary to withdraw from the university because of an illness, accident, or for other medical reasons.

This optional plan will cover 85% of your tuition charges in the event you withdraw from the university due to a covered illness or accident. Certain restrictions apply. See the supplemental statement for details. Please read it carefully.

This policy is optional; you are not obligated by Cornell University to purchase the plan. We recommend that you carefully evaluate this coverage. The plan potentially can provide significant financial assistance to you and your family should you need to withdraw for a covered medical reason.

Special information for Cornell grant/scholarship aid recipients: Cornell grant and scholarship aid funds are applied to tuition charges first. Students who enroll in the plan and who withdraw for covered medical reasons will have their Cornell grant/scholarship aid reduced up to the amount of their original tuition charge. This can result in a partial to full reinstatement of the student’s tuition charges. The plan will cover such reinstated tuition charges, provided the student otherwise meets the restrictions and requirements. Please review this plan in view of your financial aid package.

Insurance Cost

The cost may vary per academic year. For 2024-25, the cost is $215 per semester and $430 for the academic year.
