3. Why do I need to do an Exit Interview?

Federal regulation requires that all student loan  borrowers attend an exit interview prior to leaving school. Exit interviews are preparation for your loan repayment period.  Your rights and responsibilities as a borrower and those of the  lender or  servicer are reviewed.  Also, you receive information on repayment,  deferment, and  cancellation of your loans.  For university-based loans, repayment terms including length, interest rate, outstanding balance, and payment amounts are outlined.  Failure to complete an exit interview will result in a hold on your transcripts, diploma, and registration.

The minimum requirement for student deferment for federal loans is  half-time status, for non-federal Cornell Student Loans the minimum requirement is  full-time. You may refer to your promissory notes for all  deferment entitlements. A deferment form certified by your new school may be required. If you have multiple  lenders, each lender may require an enrollment certification. Please contact the  Student Loan Office for further assistance.
